A quick crash course on the local Cypriot lingo

The word 'Kataklismos' means flood, its origin is believed to come from biblical events that describe the flooding of land. As with every year, the Paralimni Municipality organises events to celebrate and remember this event.

The programme begins on Friday, 10th June with the local Radio Politia 106.7 FM station's 10th Birthday party and ends with the Blessing of the Waters on Monday morning.

The full programme is as follows:

Sunday, June 3: Fig Tree Bay, Protaras

8.00 - 8.15pm (20.00-20.15hrs): Songs and Guitar with Yianna Koutsou

8.15-9.00pm (20.15-21.00hrs): Traditional Programme

9.00-10.00pm (21.00-22.00hrs): Concert with Ilia Vretto

10.00-10.15pm (22.00-22.15pm): Greetings followed by Fireworks

10.15pm (22.15hrs): Concert with the Greek Singer Eleni Foureira

Monday, June 8

7.00am (07.00hrs): Mass at the Church of Ayia Triada (Holy Trinity).

9.00am (09.00hrs): Blessing of the waters at Ayia Triada Church.
