As you should know, Cyprus also does recycling and to a great extent too (Our previous articles on the subject: Paralimni Recycles Too!!, Protaras and Recycling your Batteries) which now has been taken yet another step forward.

Residents will have noticed large Purple Metal Containers around the town since February (although it began in other areas since end of July). This is where you can place the latest items for recycling but what can you place inside these containers you will want to know. Starting off with old CLEAN clothes placed inside bags, shoes, sheets, curtains, old handbags & belts too. In the case that the container is full do not leave your recyclable items outside but call the number which is written (99 722 121) on the container (There is one in the parking opposite Infant School on the road of the Football Academy).

The company is a non-profit organisation which will either distribute the reusable clothes to not so well off families either within Cyprus or abroad. Another part of the textiles, including clothes, handicrafts and works of art made from recycled materials, are also available to the public in low prices to cover the cost of recycling. Sorting and distribution is also operating abroad, where textiles are exported, and the textiles that cannot be reused are recycled to produce wiping cloths, fibres for new clothes, insulation and other useful materials. You can also read more on their website www.anakyklos.org (which is in English and Greek) about the efforts of the organisation.

So what are you waiting for? Have a look around & if you can't hand them down, recycle them around.
